Whoever answers first gets the job.

A homeowner with a leak doesn't leave a voicemail and wait. They work down the search results until somebody picks up. If that's not you — because you're under a sink with the water off — it's the next company on the list.

Why this trade in particular

Home services has the worst possible overlap between when customers call and when you can answer. The emergency calls come at night and on weekends. The quote calls come mid-morning, when you're on a roof. And the job is usually worth several hundred to several thousand dollars, so a single missed call costs more than a year of answering it.

Answers at 2am, same price

Burst pipe on a Sunday is the most valuable call you'll get all month. Kello picks it up and gets you the address.

Takes the details that matter

What's wrong, where, how urgent, and a callback number — texted to you as a summary, not left on a voicemail you'll hear tomorrow.

Books the visit

Against the availability you declared, so it never promises a Tuesday morning you've already committed.

Escalates the real emergencies

If it's urgent, Kello transfers the caller straight to your cell. The rest wait for the summary text.

The arithmetic

Say your average job is $400 and you're missing four calls a week that would have booked. At even a 50% close rate, that's $800 a week — call it $3,400 a month — going to whoever answered instead. Kello's Starter plan is C$49/month, and Pro, with 400 minutes, is C$149.

This is the rare case where the arithmetic isn't close. The only real question is how many calls you're actually missing, and your call log answers that in two minutes: count the inbound calls under 15 seconds over the past week.

Things trades ask

Will it quote a price?

Only what you've taught it. Tell it your call-out fee and it'll say it; ask it something you haven't covered and it says it'll have you confirm, then texts you the question. It won't invent a number to keep a caller happy.

I'm the only one here. Won't it book me into a corner?

It books against the hours you declare, and you change those by text — "I'm out Thursday, don't book anything" — and it just does it.

Can it take a deposit?

Yes. You can attach a booking fee that goes out as a payment link when the job is booked, or invoice by Interac e-Transfer if you'd rather not use a card processor at all.

What about the calls I want to take myself?

Anyone who asks for you gets transferred to your cell. You end up taking the calls that need you and none of the ones that don't.

Do I need a new phone number?

No — you keep yours. You forward it to Kello when you're busy or don't answer, so your number stays on your truck and your invoices.
